Freedom of the Hills on Skis
Discover some of the excellent cross country ski trails and skiable routes in Southern Yukon. We will do day trips from Whitehorse on some of the local trail networks, as well as forays further afield to explore some more remote options. MArch is prime time for skiing with the warming temperatures and lengthening day length, and the month is usually graced by clear skies. In addition to day time excursions we will plan to spend a couple of evenings around a fire, with the wArmth of a wall tent or yurt to retreat to, hoping for some star gazing and aurora viewing.
We plan to do daily excursions on cross country skis in the Whitehorse area, as well as to a few locations within an hour and half of Whitehorse, including into northern British Columbia. We could substitute a half or full day of snowshoeing for skiing if there is interest to do so, or you could extend the trip by one day to try this alternate mode of winter travel.
“Freedom of the Hills On Skis” is scheduled around the Buckwheat SKi Loppet which takes place this year March 7th, near the Canadian border at White Pass, north of Skagway Alaska. This is a very unique ski event and could add a memorable experience to your Yukon tour. We will be happy to assist you with logistics and registrations if you choose to add this onto your Yukon trip.
